Our future selves

Stani’s logo, originally uploaded by littlegreenpig.

At our first workshop after the summer we wrote all about ourselves. But to make it a bit more interesting we wrote about ourselves ten years in the future.  Here’s what Naiose wrote:
Hi! I’m Naoise and I’m twenty years old. I’m an author and an illustrator and artist. I live in a mansion in London with my two dogs (well, dog and puppy), Spot and Domino. Today I was so excited! I bought a ticket to fly to Spain in two weeks! It’s so amazing! I’ve wanted to go to Spain all my life. Next I had an absolutely amazing idea. Why not paint an abstract picture of a plane flying over Spain! I stepped into my teleporter and it took m straight to my study because it can read my mind. It always knows where I want to go. When I arrived at my study my robot was there, cleaning up my writing stuff and setting out my paints. I’ve just finished one of my children’s books called ‘Grace and the Chimpanzees’. Th robot put it in the teleporter which took it straight to my publisher to check it over. If it is good enough he will put it in the shopper wagon that rolls around so anyone who wants a copy can just pick it up and whistle for their swapping storer, then put the money in a tin in the side. I’m so lucky because my published gives me the money and that way I can afford my bills (it’s  a huge sum of money to live in a mansion.)
What do you think of Naoise’s future life? Wouldn’t it be great to be an author, illustrator and artist! I love how she has included elements of how she has imagined life in the future will be too – with robots and teleporters to buy books from!
What would you like to be doing in ten years time? Leave a comment and let us know.

We had a fantastic first session back with the Piglets group two weeks ago, with several new faces. Tomorrow’s workshop  we will be venturing further afield to a different venue,  Hove museum on New Church Rd. The time of the session remains the same, 10 -11.15 am. See you there!

Welcome back! It’s time to get writing again. We had a thoughtful first session with the Saddlebacks on Tuesday writing about ourselves, which isn’t always the easiest thing to do. Here is Leah’s poem:

I am concerned
My inner monologue
Echoing through my skull
Won’t give me inner peace
Everything I see, I hear

I am confused
The colours in my head
Don’t match up
Can’t be described
Everything I hear, I see

I am clever
So why are my thoughts so sparse?
I think, once,
Twice,
Thrice,
The same song on repeat
Everything I hear, I hear and hear and hear

I am conscious
But my brain can’t keep up
Set on existential
I translate
Back and Forth
Growing wearier by the thought
Everything I am, will change.

This gives a real insight into how sometimes our sense of who we are is quite complex. Well done Leah.

And here’s your writing task for the week: Dig out an old family photo and use it as a stimulus for a piece of writing. It is up to you if this is a poem or some prose, or something else, and it can be fact or fiction. Post your writing on here, or extracts if they’re quite long, and hopefully you’ll get some feedback from interested bloggers!

Happy writing, see you on Tuesday 5th October,

Lucy
