Imaginary Self Portrait, originally uploaded by katherine lynn.
How would you describe yourself to others? How much do other people really know what we’re like? These are some of the questions we were thinking about last week. Visiting workshop leader Rosy Carrick is working with the Piglets and the Saddlebacks and Piglets for two weeks. After thinking about some ideas about ‘Writing the Self’, she inspired our writers to think about how they could write in other voices, using pictures as a stimulus. They came up with some great responses. Ruby’s is below:
3.50pm, in the hotel.
Dear Diary,
Crete is amazing. But what is filling my mind today is that I’m positive I left the cooker on before I left for my 3.00am train on Tuesday. I am also mildly concerned about my lack of Greek language. The man with the funny beard in the Greek newsagent was shouting at me. He sounded very angry. Oh, why couldn’t I be bothered to go to Greek language class? I am kicking myself now. As the lady on the office said I would. Well, I wasn’t going to pay £50 to learn this stupid language! And it clashed with Eastenders!
4.10pm. Still in hotel
Dear Diary,
Definitely left the cooker on. Going to have the biggest bill ever!
Great creation of voice here Ruby, well done.
What is the name of the woman in the picture above do you think? Post us your thoughts!
