Well done to Ione and Leah for entering last week’s Summer Tuesday challenge. I think it might have required a bit too much brain (and writing!) power for some of you lazy readers, so this week is a bit easier. I want you to have a look at this picture and write 10 words that come to mind. Don’t think too much, just write the first 10 words that come into your head. Then choose a word from your list that stands out for you, and use it to write an interesting sentence. That’s it. Post your list of words and your sentence in a comment. If we don’t know you, remember to let us know which category you fall into so we can enter you into the prize draw.

Note for teachers/educators: This is an activity I often use in our workshops to get our young writers warmed up. It’s especially good for building confidence in those who think they can’t write or can’t come up with ideas.

He ran across the deserted bridge, his eyes and his heart fixed on the stairs at the end, where he could finally escape, as long as he didn’t slip on the slimy wood beneath his feet.
