I’ve been thinking about what made the event so successful. I may be biased, but I felt a very special atmosphere in the drama studio that night - something you don’t always get at these kind of events. Perhaps it was because every child and young person who stood up and performed really wanted to be there. Each of them had written their own piece, edited it, chosen it specially and practised it at home in preparation. No one was made to perform if they didn’t want to, but everyone was given the chance to participate. We are lucky enough to have the time and space to allow this, unlike school events where you often get the same old ones chosen to perform, and the same old ones ignored. I felt particularly proud of some of our performers who were very nervous, but still got up and gave a great performance.
I also got the sense that everyone in the audience was really supportive too. Even our friends and family, who wouldn’t normally come to this kind of event, found themselves hooked and intrigued by the performances. Here’s a comment from a friend who came along:
‘Thanks again for last night. I really enjoyed seeing the kids read their stuff and was impressed at how accomplished it was. Funny, sad, intriguing and inspiring. Excellent.’
We look forward to seeing you all at the workshops tomorrow.

What a good evening! Such interesting work by Piglets and Saddlebacks – and well set off by the performance poet. Just the right length and mix. It’s fantastic to see that creative writing is well and flourishing – given the right conditions and the enthusiasm of the LPG project.
